    I think the author makes some HUGE leaps in this book, attributing many of the health issues in America to wheat when, collectively, all processed food is to blame. So you eliminated wheat and you feel better? Shocking. It just so happens that while eliminating wheat, you also eliminated 70% of the processed food you were also consuming. To credit wheat alone for bad health is quite a stretch. While the data he cited regarding schizophrenia and the metamorphosis of wheat over the centuries is interesting, it's not enough to regard this book as anything more than anecdotal notes regarding his experience in eliminating processed food from his clients' diets. I'm glad I read it but it could have been about 200 pages shorter while still getting the point across. (And for the record, I'm not 100% against eliminating wheat from one's diet but not everyone benefits from said elimination like the author claims. After reading this book, I gave it a shot, I also eliminated dairy and added sugar, and after four weeks, nothing changed for me. I coach individuals in achieving better nutrition and only a handful of my clients have had noticeable metabolic success eliminating wheat. In summary, try it but don't bet the farm it will cure all your dietary problems unless you are, in fact, suffering from celiacs disease.)

    I was a skeptic when my wife began to describe the author's conclusions so I read the book myself. Fascinating stuff. Wheat's high glycemic index and exorphine effects are reason enough to give this lifestyle change a try. The news that radical genetic changes have been made to the wheat crop without any testing or FDA oversight is disturbing but not surprising. However, I must say I was disappointed that the author didn't delve deeper into the topic of the recent changes in wheat and their contribution to our nation's health issues. Afterall, the human race HAS co-existed successfully with the human-bred grain for quite a long time. And as another reviewer notes, there are other societies flooded with fantastic wheat products yet they seem to be managing better than the U.S. does. I've taken the plunge along with my wife and I can say that it's not as hard as I thought it would be. For me it's not a weight loss excercise at all (I've always been thin). I grew up eating plenty of rice and I'm no stranger to corn and potatoes. After more than a month, I'm not sure what benefit I've derived, but my wife has absolutely seen an improvement with skin issues and some weight loss as well. Bottom line: it's not a diet any more than being vegetarian is. If you concur with the book's premise you will probably stop eating wheat. If not, at least you will have learned more about your food chain and how you fit into it.

    So glad I found this book. I was diagnosed last year with celiac disease. Since most medical research is funded by pharmaceutical companies in order to supply medications, celiac information is not so easily found. I have researched, read anything and everything to assist with understanding my diet. I eliminated( or so I thought) gluten from my diet. I did see improvement for a few months. However, I have found it very hard to stay healthy and have gained more weight than desired. Wheat belly has opened my eyes. Many of the products labeled gluten free still contain ingredients that are keeping me from being/feeling healthy. I started the wheat belly Way Of Life Tuesday. It is now Friday and I feel better. I love the recipes I have tried thus far. This is not a diet for me,it really is a way of life. Love the book and also the wheat belly cookbook. IT IS WELL WORTH THE MONEY. It is a matter of life or death to me (sounds dramatic unless you are a very sensitive celiac) .

    European societies consume and had consumed wheat for centuries without seemingly suffer the consequences, whenever I have walked the streets of Paris, Rome, Barcelona or even smaller cities is actually hard to find obviously obese individuals. Do europeans a) consume a different type of wheat or b) consume less quantity ? In either case the total eradication of wheat from our diets doesn't seem to make sense. I read the whole book hoping that this apparent contradiction would be addressed but it was not, nevertheless I generally enjoyed the book mostly in the way that unveils the huge and historical mistakes of the FDA and the unscrupulous commercial machinery behind wheat products.

    After reading this book I am glad to say I am wheat free, by choice. Meaning I have no allergies or medical reason to omit. The book is easy to read with multiple sources of research referenced. The same themes are repeated making it easy to understand and to follow. I choose to go wheat free after battling a weight problem. I lost 5 pounds the first week of going wheat free by way of cold turkey. Probably do to water weight. I feel like I have more energy, I am less irritable between meals and actually enjoy my food. This will be a long term life choice and I am thrilled to have read it early in life. (32 years old)
