About the author

Libby Carpenter lives in Preston with her family. She completed a BA in English Literature and Language with the Open University in 2011.
Libby was awarded a Northern Writers’ New Fiction award, and was longlisted for Yeovil Literary Prize (2015 and 2016) and the MsLexia Women’s Novel award (2015). She loves living in the north of England and sets most of her stories in the area, including the novel she is writing at the moment. She currently works as a book keeper.


  • So much is good about this book...

    Very good character development...I really 'bonded' with them. I truly was gob smacked at the twists...rare for me. Perhaps the best thing about it was that she took the time to complete the whole story. So often I feel like as soon as the big reveal, there is a rush to end the book. Publisher's deadlines or bored with the process? I don't know, but this denouement is very satisfying. My only negative....lots and lots and lots and lots of unnecessary F-words pepper the whole book...loses any impact it might have and adds nothing. All in all...an engaging read.

    I love to read and I rated 99 Red Balloons 3 Stars because, at times, it was confusing jumping Chapters with different characters back and forth. It was a good book overall, however.
